Pray for the Purity of the Worship of the Church

Pray for the purity of the Worship of the Church, that it would be ordered according to the acceptable way of worshipping that God has instituted by Himself. (Col. 2:16-23; Deut.12:1-32)

  1. Pray for the Elders of the Church, as those in authority, under Christ, that they would give heed to his commands and counsels pertaining to the worship of the Church, ordering only that which is Scriptural, and teaching the people of God to love the Lord’s establishment. (James 3:1)
  2. Pray for the people of God, that we would not love vanity and carnality in worship, but a pure, spiritual order and execution, according to the Word of the Lord. (John 4:24)
  3. Pray for the right mindset among the people of God, being taught by their Church leaders (themselves rightly trained) how rightly to worship the Lord, that they would to come to Church not for themselves, but to serve the Lord according to His order, submitting themselves to His commands. (Deuteronomy 12:30-32)
  4. Pray for the preaching of the Word, and for preachers, that they would teach all the counsel of God, that the people of God would desire all the Lord’s counsel, and would not heap to themselves teachers having itching ears. Pray that ministers would teach the truth, and not simply utter “smooth words.” (Isaiah 30:8-14)
  5. Pray for the praise of the Church, that churches would hear the Word of the Lord and sing the Psalms, with grace and joy in the heart, teaching and admonishing one another, singing and hearing the truth in the praise of the gathered assembly, that the Lord would root out vain doctrines of men from our minds, even as we sing to Him. (Col. 3:16)
  6. Pray that all man-made additions in the service of the Lord would be torn down — choirs, orchestras, “children’s church,” talent-based performances, pop-culture self-aggrandizing music, candles, incense, ashes, relics and other things, that the Lord would be pleased to cleanse his sanctuary. (Ezekiel 8:1-18; 9:4)
  7. Pray for a spiritual and sincere worship according to the Lord’s order, in reading, preaching, and conscionably hearing the word in Godly fear, singing of Psalms with grace in the heart, praying and giving thanks in the Spirit unto the Lord, proper administration of the sacraments, and keeping the Sabbath holy. (Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 14)
