Prayers for the Colorado Legislature

Let us pray for the Legislators of the Colorado General Assembly. There are 35 Senators and 65 Representatives. While we do pray for all members of the General Assembly, we also offer special prayers for the President of the Senate (Leroy Garcia), the Speaker of the House (Alec Garnett), the Majority and Minority Leaders of each chamber (Stephen Fenberg, Chris Holbert, Daneya Esgar, and Hugh McKean). We pray that they would successfully take part in leading this state according to justice, equity, wisdom, and righteousness as commanded in the Word of the Lord.

  1. Pray for the true conversion of each Legislator that each would represent the state of Colorado as one who will give account to God, truly and sincerely professing their allegiance to Him that their conversion and subsequent life is coupled with a desire for obedience and a growing knowledge of God’s will, such that their sincerity and love for Christ would shine through their actions and be a worthy witness even in the face of persecution and political opposition. (Colossians 1.9-13, Psalm 2.10-12)
  2. Pray that each Legislator would recognize their position as ministers of God for good, that they would promote good according to God’s Word, and discourage and punish evil, reward good and encourage and reinforce the standards of morality as described in the Scripture and not in the conventional wisdom of the world and society. (Romans 13.1-6, Deuteronomy 17.14-17)
  3. Pray for wisdom for each Legislator that they would execute a godly office with humility, integrity, and honor as representatives of the state of Colorado, and that in all their business dealings, they would deal fairly, treat all parties fairly, and not elevate, diminish, or give preferential treatment to any based upon race or financial condition. (Proverbs 3:27, 20.14, James 2:9)
  4. Pray that Lord would keep the heart of each Legislator away from concerns of personal popularity, away from seeking the praise of men, away from the affections of the world, away from evil, away from bribery, away from divisive and partisan politics, away from ungodly and wicked social policies, and towards righteous judgment as set forth in Scripture and that they would seek only the praise that comes from the Lord and that he might use the Bible as the only reference for good as defined by God. (Deuteronomy 16:19, Leviticus 19:15, 1 Timothy 4.1-8)
  5. Pray for each Legislator, as authorities of our state, that they would not hinder the public worship of the Lord but would consider Christian Churches worshipping within their bounds to be an adornment of their jurisdiction and would promote the worship of God in their lawful bounds. (Ezra 6.1-12)
