The Christian Family

Pray that the Church and State would exhibit and Promote godliness and obedience in marriage and family relations. (Malachi 2.10-16; Colossians 3.18-4.1 )

  1. Pray for reformation of the Church Visible, that perversions of marriage from the Biblical norm would be rightly handled through instruction, correction, admonition, rebuke, censure, and excommunication, that the Lod would bless godly discipline for the honor of Christ and the purity of the Church. (1 Corinthians 5.1-13) .
  2. Pray that the Church would return to the Bible concerning marriage and family, following the Apostle Paul: “Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind…shall inherit the kingdom of God.” Pray that she would hold out the forgiveness, restoration, and the sanctification of Christ instead. (1 Corinthians 6.9-11)
  3. Pray that churches, in the ministry of the Word, would promote the Biblical teaching on the marriage of one man to one woman for life, would preach against error and perversion, unnecessary divorce, and that she would stand firm, with Christ, against the destruction of the family as instituted by our Creator. (Malachi 2.10-16)
  4. Pray for fathers as the primary breadwinners, that they would labor diligently, providing for their own households, taking the leadership for their families as the responsible party before the Lord. (Ephesians 5.23, 25, 6.4; 1 Timothy 5.8)
  5. Pray for wives, that they would not usurp the authority of their, would guide and keep the house primarily, that they would be domestically oriented, according to the pattern of Scripture. (Eph. 5.22-24; 1 Tim. 5.11-16; Titus 2.3-5)
  6. Pray for the children of the Church, that they would obey their parents in the Lord, as those who belong to Christ, that proper order and discipline might be instituted by Christian parents and observed by Christian children, that Christian nurture would be advanced among the Lord’s household, such that the Lord would be pleased to bring His children to their profession of faith and public owning of Christ as their Lord. (Deuteronomy 11.18-22; Psalm 34.11)
  7. Pray for the Church, that she would not usurp the integrity of the family, displacing parents in the nurture and admonition of their children, but would have a Biblical respect for family integrity; pray for parents, that they would not seek to ofload their duty of raising their own children to others, taking up this duty with joy. (Psalm 113.9; 2 Cor. 12.14)
  8. Pray for the civil authorities, that they would promote strong families by framing legislation encouraging families to stay together and solve difficulties, by refusing to usurp the authority of fathers and mothers, but promoting the Biblical ideal of fathers providing, and mothers guiding the house, and by repealing easy divorce laws. (Matthew 19.3-12)
