The Advancement of the Kingdom of Christ in this World

Pray that the Lord would be pleased in our day to encourage His people through the advancement of His Kingdom. (Daniel 2.31-49; Psalm 2.1-12)

  1. Pray for the ministry of the Word of God, its proper preaching by godly preachers throughout this world, to the conversion of the lost, the conviction of sinners, the repentance of all, that the Church being furnished with the Spirit from on High would be conformed to the image of Christ, to the glory of her King. (Acts 3.19-21; Isaiah 32.15)
  2. Pray for the destruction of the kingdom of Satan: That all false religion would be rightly despised and cast down in the estimation of all men, that those civil governments (and rulers) that have arrogated to themselves divine prerogatives, refusing to bow the knee to Christ, would learn to “kiss the Son,” that the people of the world would know the coming judgment, and armed with that knowledge, would to from idols to the living God. (1 Thessalonians 1.6-10)
  3. Pray for godly civil governments, that would promote the Kingdom of Christ within their bounds, rather than seeing it as a threat to their bestial authority, would promote and encourage the true religion, learning from the godly ministers of the land how to govern rightly, as God’s ministers for good. (Romans 13.1-6; Proverbs 14.34)
  4. Pray for that absolute reign of Christ in the hearts of his people, that the Church would be purged from all false doctrine, error, ungodly practices, worldliness, carnal worship, that the people of God, seeking Christ in His Word, would find Him there, and following Him, that judgement might begin at the house of God. (1 Peter 4.17-19)
  5. Pray for the Preachers and Governors of the Church, that they would have an eye to serving Christ by rightly watching over His flock, laboring in their offices to promote godly doctrine from the pulpits, and in training of future officers, godly worship and devotion to the Lord, and wise order and discipline, for the honor of Christ, the protection of the flock from error, and for the conversion, reclamation, and reformation of the members of the Church. (1 Corinthians 5.1-13)
  6. Pray for the membership of the Church, that the people of god would not turn their ears away from the truth, to fables, that they would not attend or join such churches who “entertain the goats,” but that the people of God would, by a fresh blowing of the Spirit of God over the Church, desire the pure milk of the Word. (1 Peter 2.2)
  7. Pray for that mindset of dependence upon the Lord for the advancement of His Kingdom, that as Christ said, “I will build my Church” that we would not rest in carnal or earthly means to build what Christ alone is able to build, that we would seek Him and His direction in His Word for every step forward with Him. (Matthew 16.13-20; Acts 1.1-3)
