The 7th Commandment, Proper Human Intimacy and Relation
- Pray for the Church, instructing all her membership from the Word of God on human intimacy, the Divine Institution of Marriage, that ministers of the Word would address these topics, that the people of God might be well furnished against the destruction wrought upon our land through systematic disregard for the 7th commandment. (Lev. 18.24-30)
- Pray that the Church would provide leadership, help, counseling, and other spiritual supply to support lawful marriage, discourage and discipline sinful divorce, honor the discipline of other churches, encourage obedience, discourage deficiencies, that the families of the Church might witness to the beauty of God’s design. (Prov. 5.18; Hebrews 13.4)
- Pray for our civil leaders, that they would look to the Lord for the ordering of this civil estate of the family, that perverseness and vile behavior would be punished, lawful and Biblical marriage encouraged and preserved, that the Lord would be pleased to grant sound households to our land, that single parenthood would be rare rather than common, and that perverse unions would be forbidden by statute and common consent. (Deuteronomy 24.4; 1 Kings 15.9-13)
- Pray that Biblical marriage would be encouraged in the Church and State, with inducements for marriage provided, that the Lord would be pleased to advance the Biblical design of family in our midst. (Deuteronomy 24.5)
- Pray for good relations between extended families, that we would avoid intermeddling with one another’s family authority structures, that men would lead their families with love and care as the responsible parties, that wives would submit to their husbands in the Lord, that parents would together provide godly leadership, order, instruction, and discipline for their children, that each family, and the members in it, would understand their God-given duties and perform them with joy, that our prayers be not hindered, and the Gospel adorned. (Ephesians 6.1-3; 1 Peter 3.1-7)
- Pray for a godly understanding of inheritance, according to Scripture, that this encouragement to family integrity would be preached from our pulpits and embraced by our people, and modeled to the watching world, that the preservation of knowledge, of wealth, and of wisdom, and specially of spirituality would flow from generation to generation according to God’s design, for the good of our race, and the advancement of the Kingdom of Christ. (Isaiah 54.11-17)
- Pray that atomization of the family would be seen for what it is—a curse upon our land—that family nurture would be restored, that parents would raise their children according to God’s design, that marriage and child-bearing (and holy child-rearing) would once again be united together in purpose and execution. (1 Timothy 5.1-16)
