Serving the Lord as Living Sacrifices

Pray for the people of God, individually and covenantally, that we would live unto the Lord as His.

  1. Pray for the people of God, that it would be their constant confession, which orders the way they live, that their lives are dedicated to the service of God wholly—in their worship, service to one another, family lives, labor in this world, in business and commerce, in recreation and leisure—presenting themselves to the Lord in all. (Romans 12.1-2)
  2. Pray that in this sacrifice and offering, that they would live as those transformed, with a heavenly context and purview, setting their affections on things above, not on things of this world. (Colossians 3.1-4)
  3. Pray that the people of God would not think of themselves more highly than they ought to think, as if their lives were their own, but soberly—with a proper sense of gravity, not frivolously, remembering that spiritual dimension that ought to touch all their living, with knowledge of their duty before their God. (Romans 12.3)
  4. Pray for the officers of the Church, that this principle of sacrifice might be evident and advancing in them, as they labor with dedication to Christ among His flock. (Romans 12.5-8)
  5. Pray that as the people of God come together as a body, that we would not desire to carve out special privileges for ourselves, or maintain special indulgences for ourselves, but would live as one of the covenant community, taking our place with sacrificial service to one another, refusing selfish courses of action. (Romans 12.9-10; Philippians 2.1-4)
  6. Pray that the people of God would live as those who are bought with the precious blood of Christ, leaving off selfish concerns, seeking to glorify Him in everything, seeking direction from Him alone, as their head. (1 Corinthians 6.12-19)
  7. Pray that in our callings and temporal labors, we would excel, serving the Lord; that in our places as parents, children, and other familial relations, we would at all times do one another good in those places; that we would take up our duty before the Lord with fervency and diligence, such that our profession of Christ would be adorned before the watching world with well-ordered families, skill and excellence in calling, with godly contentment. (Romans 12.11)
  8. Pray that our hearts would go out to one another in godly reproof, compassion, care, supply, and service, that none in the body of Christ would be isolated or estranged from His Church. (Romans 12.12-15)
  9. Pray that Christians would, as far as it lies in them, live at peace with all men, that we would not be revolutionaries or malcontents, but would bring our grief to the Lord first, trusting Him. (Romans 12.17-21)
