Rightly seeking the Blessing of the Lord: Isaiah 55.1-13; 1 Peter 3.8-22

Pray that the people of God would seek the blessing of the Lord in the coming year, according to his Word.

  1. Pray that the Church would cleanse her hands, purify her hearts, letting her laughter be turned to mourning, and that the Lord would, granting this repentance, leave a blessing for His people, exalting them. (Joel 2.14; James 4.7-10)
  2. Pray that the Church would seek then blessing of the Lord by seeking after Christ, communion with Him by faith, and that she would not be moved off her chief end to glorify the Lord in everything. (Corinthians 10.31)
  3. Pray that the Church would seek the blessing of her God, and not the favor of the world—that she would hear His voice, following Him, ordering here affairs according to His Word. (James 4.1-4; John 10.1-5)
  4. Pray that the Church would seek the blessing of the Lord in her worship, serving Him according to His Word, turning away from will-worship and the doctrines and commandments of men, serving Him with joy. (Matt. 15.1-9)
  5. Pray that seeking the blessing of God, the Church would preach the pure Gospel of Christ, and that the Lord would be pleased to purify the ministry of the Gospel in her midst, that the blessing of Abraham, even the Gospel preached to Him, would saturate this sad nation, that many would come to Christ. (Galatians 3.8-14)
  6. Pray for a blessing in obedience to the commands of our great King, Jesus Christ, that or love for Christ more and more, would be manifested in that we confess Him, and keep His commandments. (John 14.15)
  7. Pray that the Church would not seek the blessing of the Lord by carnal means, but that she would make use of the upright means He has given to her in His word to receive His blessing, submitting herself to the righteousness of God, and not seeking to establish her own righteousness. (Matthew 23.15; Romans 10.1-3)
  8. Pray that the Church would seek the blessing of the Lord in reforming her doctrine and practice, hating every false way, loving justice and truth, speaking peace and truth in the gates. (Psalm 85.8; Zechariah 8.16-17)
  9. Pray for wisdom on the part of God’s people, that they would seek the blessings of spiritual advancement, over temporal prosperity, turning away from what the world calls success, and that through the foolishness of preaching all the counsel of God the people of God would know the blessing of the Lord. (Acts 20.27; Matthew 5.1-12)
