Pray regarding rest and contentment with God’s providence

Prayer for the people of God, for the absence of murmuring, and for contentment in all things. (Luke 3.14; Philippians 4.11)

  1. Pray that God’s people would live quietly, soberly, and modestly in this world, that we would not be grandstanders, craving attention. (2 Corinthians 1.12; Titus 2.12)
  2. Pray that the people of God would not murmur at their blessed condition in this world, but would rejoice in all things, knowing that they work together for good. (1 Corinthians 10.10; Philippians 2.14)
  3. Pray that God’s people would confess and repent of all discontentment and murmuring, that He would grant contentment and thankfulness. (Acts 8.20-24; 1 John 1.9)
  4. Pray for God’s people, that they would be content in their places and stations in this world, not seeking beyond their stations in life, yet being godly and expert in many things: (Luke 3.14; Colossians 3.22-25)
  5. Pray for the people of God, that they might learn that the grace of God is sufficient for them, no matter the affliction, calamity, loss, evil, or deprivation. (2 Corinthians 12.7-10)
  6. Pray for a true realization for God’s people that they are not worthy of the least of God’s mercies, yet they have received in Christ beyond what one could ask or think. . (Genesis 32.10)
  7. Pray in all our requests to the Lord, that we would realize that we are “but dust and ashes”, and come humbly, seeking His will, not endeavoring to impose our own. (Genesis 18.23-33)
  8. Pray for a sanctifying of our own wills, so that when we come before the Lord, we do not “ask amiss, that we may spend upon our own lusts”. (James 4.1-10)
  9. Pray that in times of affliction, the people of God would sincerely commit their souls unto the Lord. (1 Peter 4.19)
  10. Pray that the people of God would avoid covetousness, and all temptations, occasions, and appearances to it, resting content in the Word, help, and providence of their Savior. (Hebrews 13.5-6)
  11. Pray that God’s people would keep their eyes upon their enduring substance in Christ, rather than upon the things of this world, seeking first His Kingdom and Righteousness. (Matthew 6.33; Hebrews 10.34)
  12. Pray for contentment among God’s people with their place in the Church as members, or officers. (1 Timothy 1.5-7)
