Pray for the Persecuted Church

Pray for the Church, as she comes under greater animus from the world, that she would remain faithful.

  1. Pray for the Church, that her love for Christ would enlarge, so that she would not turn from Him, from His truth, and from His commandments no matter how much difficulty comes to them from the world. (1 Peter 4.12-13)
  2. Pray that the Lord would keep and sustain His people in the face of growing sentiment against Biblical worship, family order, godly business practice, and other adherence to Christ and His Word, in faithfulness and love. (Psalm 140.1-7)
  3. Pray that the Church would be a consistent and loving witness for the truth against error and immorality, especially concerning Biblical marriage, family relation, with humility and perseverance. (Colossians 4.5-6)
  4. Pray that God’s people would have a habit of obedience, and that coupled with a growing knowledge of God’s will, such that their sincerity and love for Christ would shine through their actions, and be a worthy witness even in the face of persecution, that through the world’s animus we would be pressed ahead as good soldiers of Christ. (2 Tim. 2.1-7)
  5. Pray that Christians would come into the Church with Biblical expectations, not expectations of prosperity, position, ease, or any such earthly blessing, but of serving Christ and His people, counting the cost, and being living sacrifices unto Him, and enjoying the spiritual riches of the Kingdom. (Luke 14.25-25)
  6. Pray that Christians would know they are not their own, but bought with a price, such that if men have persecuted their Lord, that they too will come under the world’s displeasure, and so be ready to suffer with Him. (Rom. 8.17; John. 15.20)
  7. Pray that as the Church is persecuted, that she would be humble, contrite, that she would examine herself and repent of her defections from the Lord, His doctrine, and His commands, that the Lord would grant repentance and relief to His persecuted people, and by this draw many unto Himself. (Nehemiah 9.1-37)
  8. Pray for persecutors of the Church, that they would come to nothing, that when persecution comes through their hand, that the Lord would finish His work, converting some prosecutors, & refining His people. (Isaiah 10.5-13; Mark 15.39)
  9. Pray that the Lord would sustain His people in faith, obedience, in dedication unto Him, His worship and ways, and that through persecution many would seek the Lord—that the dedication to Christ in persecution would be an effective apologetic under the Lord’s hand. (Mark 15.33-39; Luke 23.47-48; Matthew 5.16)
