Pray for the people of God, for proper focus and priority concerning heavenly, spiritual things.

  1. Pray for the Church, that she would not mind earthly things, but would ascend in her teaching, thought, and practice to that which is heavenly, having her conversation in heaven. (Philippians 3:17-21)
  2. Pray as the Church considers heavenly things, that she would not be put to fright or worry by temporal concerns, that the changing circumstances of this life would not hinder her confidence in the Lord, and would not cause her to doubt His goodness to her; that she might make a good use of every affliction. (Psalm 16:8; Isaiah 50:7)
  3. Pray that the vanities and temporal concerns of this world would not distract the Church from her mission to glorify the Lord, advance his Kingdom, edify His people, and speak the truth to all. (2 Timothy 2:1-7)
  4. Pray that the people of God would not seek to please the world, themselves, or any other but Christ: receiving His commandments, resting in His grace, and that Christ and his loveliness would eclipse all of temporal and earthly benefits as unworthy of Him. (Philippians 3:1-14)
  5. Pray that the people of God would have their portion in the Lord, seeking first His kingdom and glory, that he Himself would be their reward, and not any other benefit—that they would not serve Him as mercenaries for benefits, but that His gracious countenance would satisfy them. (Palm 73:26; 119:57; 17:15)
  6. Pray for a proper priority among the people of God, that they would seek first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, laying not up treasures upon earth where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal. (Matthew 6:33)
  7. Pray that God’s people, while living in this world, would use the things of this world properly, loving the Lord and His Word, that we would not love the things of this world, but glorify God in the receipt and use of them. (1 John 2:15)
  8. Pray that the Lord would teach us to number our days, to know the brevity of our lives, keeping a heavenly and spiritual perspective, that we might incline our hearts unto wisdom, living before Him who knows our hearts, confessing our sins, and seeking His forgiveness and mercy in Christ, and growth in grace. (Psalm 90:1-17)
  9. Pray for the people of God, that our common mission of service the Lord and glorifying Him would eclipse earthly and smaller concerns, that we would proceed in Biblical unity one with another. (Ephesians 4:1-16)
