Pray for the Church, that she would return to a godly use of the Great Creeds and Confessions of the Faith (1 Timothy 3:14-16, 1 Corinthians 1:10-13)

  1. Pray for the Church, that in adopting her Confession of Faith whether as members or officers, that she would do so with integrity, apart from crossed fingers and mental reservation, confessing the truths of Scripture, codifying and keeping them in her various places as members, and officers. (Galatians 2:11-21)
  2. Pray that a Church’s confession would never be confused with the inspired words of Scripture, but would always be built upon Scripture, and subject to revision, as the Lord gives light. (Psalm 119:89)
  3. Pray that the church, as the pillar and ground of the truth, would hold up the truth by writing Biblical confessions to affix the truth of God’s Word over successive ages, and hold out then truth unto the world in a competent way without compromise. (1 Timothy 3:14-16)
  4. Pray especially for the elders of the Church, that they would vow and keep that commitment to the sound Bible doctrine expressed in that confessional standard with integrity, and that upon any change of belief or conscience, that they would submit themselves to their fellow elders for examination, reformation, or correction, as the Lord would reveal through His appointed means. (1 Timothy 5:19-22)
  5. Pray that the Church would use her confession as a means of instruction, from the Bible, to her membership, that the people of God might grow together in Biblical unity through their confession and catechism. (1 Corinthians 1:10)
  6. Pray that in having and using a Confession of faith, that the people of God would learn to think of themselves not as individuals, but part of a larger covenant community that confess and speak the same things, that they would not hold themselves aloof from one another, but that their common confession would be a means of unity. (Jude 1:18-21)
  7. Pray that the Church would have the courage also to use the Bible doctrine ensconced in their confession and creed as a means of disciplining those who are heretics, being condemned of themselves, and that these creedal documents would have their due use of protecting the Church from error. (Titus3:10; 1 Timothy 1:18-20)
  8. Pray that through the proper use of her Creed, that the Church would expunge from her bounds the destructive latitudinarian-ism and heresy that plague Churches without sound creeds. (1 Corinthians 15:1-12)
