Civil Government is an Ordinance of God, for His Glory

Pray for Godly Civil Government, that leaders would learn from Christ how to govern in true Justice and Judgment. (Romans 13.1-10; Psalm 2.1-12; 82.1-8)

  1. Pray that civil leaders would have godly counsellors and pastors to lead them in the truth, that their official actions might be informed by the Word of God, and that they themselves would pay good heed to the Scripture in all their labors, as those who will give account to God. (Deuteronomy 17.14-20)
  2. Pray that civil leaders would not take bribes, or favors, to pervert justice, but that their eyes would be open to the truth, and proper judgment. (Deuteronomy 16.19)
  3. Pray that civil leaders would be especially mindful of the oppressed and weak, and not only hear the wealthy and powerful, but would defend the fatherless and widows, as well as business magnate, the small as well as the great, to the glory of God, who hears the cries of the poor and needy. (Exodus23.6; Leviticus 19.15)
  4. Pray that civil rulers would exercise their authority with the consent of the governed, and on behalf of the governed, for their good; for their protection, liberty, and temporal security, and turn away from the temptation to rule on behalf of their own ease or profit. (Deuteronomy 17.16-17; Isaiah 3.14-15; 31.1-3)
  5. Pray for civil leaders, that they would know their responsibility before God to defend their own nation with proper priority, defending their own borders and domestic interest, refusing to meddle in other nations’ affairs unnecessarily, understanding proper limits of civil authority and its right exercise. (Deuteronomy 2.5; 2.19; 2 Kings 14.10)
  6. Pray for the repeal of unjust laws, and of laws that expand the authority of civil governments sinfully. (Psalm 94.1-21)
  7. Pray for the establishment of just laws, that promote godliness, temperance, goodness, faith, love, joy, peace, etc. that kind of righteousness that exalts a nation. (Galatians 5.22-23; Proverbs 14.34)
  8. Pray that civil leaders would recognize their position as God’s ministers for good, to reward the good and upright, and to revenge evil in God’s stead, within their bounds, and be an example of godly rule to others. (Romans 13.1-10)
  9. Pray that our civil leaders would be converted to Christ, would perform all their duty to His glory, that they would not trust in military might, economic prowess, past and present alliances, but in the Lord our God. (Psalm 20.7)
  10. Pray for civil punishments according to Scripture, in restitution and other means, that fellow-citizens would not become vile to us through incarceration, that they might rejoin society with forgiveness, having paid their debt. (Deut. 25.1-4)
