Godly submission to Church Government, in the Lord

Pray for submission in the Lord to Godly leadership and government in the Church.

  1. Pray for submission in the Lord to the leadership of the Church, that the people of God would unite themselves behind their leaders, following the Lord in all lawful commands and counsels, submitting themselves one to another in the fear of the Lord. (Numbers 16.1-11)
  2. Pray for the people of God, that they would be convinced that the leaders they have over them are those provided by the Lord, that they would deal rightly with them, that when questions and disagreements arise, these would be managed
according to Scriptural principle, that the Lord would grant peace in His Church. (Hebrews 13.17)
  3. Pray that God’s people would avoid the temptation to follow popular or celebrity Elders, that they would know those Elders which labor among them, and esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. (1 Thessalonians 5.12-13)
  4. Pray that God’s people would take their Church vows seriously, with commitment to Christ and the advancement of His Kingdom, taking their place in the Church, supporting their leadership, encouraging fellow members, and adorning the commitments they have made with faithfulness. (Psalm 22.5; 50.14-23; 56.12; 61.5-8)
  5. Pray for the people of God, that they would come diligently, and with prayer and preparation, to worship the Lord each Lord’s Day, taking their place among the congregation, providing by their attendance and attention to the worship of God great encouragement to one another and to their Elders. (Hebrews 10.19-25)
  6. Pray that the Lord’s people would be committed to daily exhortation in families and among themselves, diligent prayer for their Elders and fellow members, godly service according to what it means to live in a community of saints, facilitating and providing for all godliness among all, to the glory of Christ. (Colossians 1.9; Hebrews 3.13-19; 13.18)
  7. Pray that the people of God would desire the truth of God’s Word, and practice of those professing godliness, above all other things, being drawn to Christ, working for the reformation of their Churches, fleeing from corruption and declension in doctrine and practice, seeking to glorify the King of the Church by their obedience. (John 10.5)
  8. Pray for God’s people, that they would desire godliness and holiness in their leaders as a priority. (Luke 19.11-27)
