Adoption and its Fruit

Pray for the people of God, that they would walk in the benefits of their inheritance in Christ. (Romans 8.12-39; Galatians 4.1-7)

  1. Pray that the Church would understand her inheritance in Christ properly, not in a false “name-it-and-claim-it” sense, but in being adopted into the household of Christ, our elder Brother, with access to the Father in prayer through Him, being received into His household and under the smiling countenance of our Father. (Numbers 6.22-27)
  2. Pray that the people of God would be “obedient children,” not walking according to the ways of this world, not carnally, nor naturally, but as He who has called us is holy, that we would be holy in all manner of living. (1 Peter 1.13-16)
  3. Pray for the people of God, that we would pass the time of our sojourn in this life in childlike reverence toward the Lord our Father, not in slavish fear or obedience, nor in rebellious license, flouting and despising His commandments, but lovingly embracing Him and His ways, hating all things whereby He is grieved, and endeavoring to please Him at all times,
remembering the cost of our redemption—the precious blood of Christ. (1 Peter 1.17-19)
  4. Pray that the people of God would obey in word and deed, not in word only, that our walk would match our calling upon God as Our Father, and that when rebellious, we might repent and do works meet for repentance. (Matt. 21.28-32)
  5. Pray that as the sons and daughters of the Almighty, we would separate ourselves from all that is sinful and perverse, and would be united to our Father in thought, word, and deed, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (2 Corinthians 6.14-7.1)
  6. Pray for the Church, that she would not be foolish, but as the children of God, wise to do good, blameless and harmless in the midst of a crooked generation, simple or unlearned regarding evil, shining as lights in this world, rather than joining in with the unfruitful works of darkness. (Philippians 2.14-15; Romans 16.19; Jeremiah 4.22)
  7. Pray that the adopted sons and daughters of the Lord would serve the Him, especially in worship, according to the commands of their Father, stretching forth the tent cords, and setting up His curtains according to the pattern in the mount, refusing human invention and innovation, that the ministers would lead in truth. (Jeremiah 10.17-25)
  8. Pray that as the children of God, we would bear His chastisements with joy, as proof of the truth of His Fatherhood over us, as that which instructs and corrects us, as that which advances our obedience, and as that by which we partake of His holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Hebrews 12.1-17)
